Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya, officially known as Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, is a historic city in central Thailand, renowned for its ancient ruins and rich cultural heritage. Founded in 1350, Ayutthaya served as the capital of the Kingdom of Siam for over four centuries until its destruction by the Burmese in 1767. Today, the city's archaeological sites, part of the Ayutthaya Historical Park, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors from around the world. The park features impressive ruins of palaces, temples, and statues, showcasing the grandeur of its past. Notable sites include Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha head entwined in tree roots, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram, known for its stunning architecture. Ayutthaya's strategic location at the confluence of three rivers—Chao Phraya, Lopburi, and Pa Sak—enhanced its historical significance as a trading hub. Beyond its historical allure, Ayutthaya offers a glimpse into traditional Thai life with its local markets, river cruises, and cultural festivals, making it a captivating destination for history buffs and cultural enthusiasts alike.
